| | is full arsenal on display, demanded the ball with (29th Jun 16 at 9:12am UTC) | | | Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. http://www.baratassuperstar.com/nike-lunar-force-1/air-force-1-lunar-azul.html .ca. Hi Kerry, In the third period of last nights game between the Sharks and Ducks, San Joses John Scott left the bench to fight Anaheims Tim Jackman. Scott got 10 minutes for instigating and was ejected. Now Bob McKenzie tweets that Player Safety will review this under Rule 70.2 but it does not mean that Scott will get an automatic 10-game suspension. Why wouldnt this be the case? Jeffrey Grimes, Ancaster, ON Jeffrey: Let me clarify the specific rules that come into play when a player is deemed guilty of leaving the players bench for the purpose of starting an altercation. Rule 70.1 states that no player may leave the players or penalty bench at any time during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation. The first or second player from either or both teams who leaves the players or penalty bench under this rule is to be assessed a game misconduct penalty (70.6). Additionally, (70.10) the first player from either or both teams to leave the players or penalty bench illegally is to be suspended without pay for the next ten (10) games; the second player from either or both teams shall be suspended for the next five (5) games. The team(s) shall be fined ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for the first instance and increased by five thousand ($5,000) for each subsequent occurrence over the next following three year period. All players, as well as the first and second players who leave the bench illegally shall be subjected to an automatic fine in the amount equal to the maximum permitted under the collective bargaining agreement. The Coach(es) of the team(s) whose player(s) left the players bench(es) illegally during an altercation shall be suspended, pending a review by the Commissioner and fined a maximum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000). For all suspensions imposed on players under this rule, the Club shall pay to the League a sum equal to the pro-rata of that players salary covered by the suspension (Players salary divided by number of days in the regular season multiplied by number of games suspended). I provide you with all these potential consequences once a player(s) deemed in violation of Rule 70 is so that you fully appreciated the severity of the punishment that can be doled out. Rule 70.2, however provides a caveat (or escape clause if you will) which provides for a player who has entered the game while play is in progress from his own players bench or legally from the penalty bench (penalty time has expired) who starts an altercation may be subject to discipline in accordance with Rule 28 (Supplementary Discipline). That could include additional fines and/or suspensions for any offense committed during the course of the game, whether or not the offense was penalized by the Referee. Even though Captain Obvious would tell you that John Scott came onto the ice for the clear purpose of starting an altercation with Tim Jackman, in retribution for Jackmans prior assault on Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Scott entered the game by virtue of a legal line change for teammate Matt Nieto. The fact that Scott was legally entitled to be on the ice pretty much exempts him from the 10-game suspension. There are a number of precedents set in similar or even more obvious player attacks from the bench. Craig Berube, current coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, once came onto the ice with play in progress on a legal line change but forgot his gloves and stick on the players bench! With play moving up ice in the opposite direction Chief went against the flow and attacked an opponent that had just delivered a questionable hit on one of Berubes teammates. Referee Bill McCreary assessed the game misconduct which carried the automatic 10 game suspension for leaving the players bench for the purpose of starting an altercation. The penalty and suspension was subsequently rescinded because it was determined that Berube was entitled to be on the ice by virtue of a legal line change. I also recall seeing Chris Pronger, as a member of the St. Louis Blues at the time, jump off his players bench without his gloves and pound an opponent into submission who was involved in a confrontation with another Blues player directly in front of the bench. A very liberal and generous interpretation of a legal line change was granted to Pronger on the play to escape suspension. Now, as a new member of the Player Safety Committee, perhaps Chris will call upon his firsthand experience in assessing John Scotts actions in the game last night? Rule 28 was invoked to suspend Ryan Clowe for two games when he came onto the ice and started an altercation but I dont see that happening for John Scotts actions. Scott didnt sucker punch or blatantly attack Jackman. Instead Scott followed somewhat similar rules of engagement that Jackman initiated against the big Shark player in their fight just two minutes and 16 seconds into the game. Anything more than a fine would deviate from existing precedent. http://www.baratassuperstar.com/air-huarache-espana/air-huarache-verde.html . -- Howie Kendrick had a two-run single in his first game batting leadoff this season, Chris Iannetta hit a pair of RBI singles and the Los Angeles Angels beat Cleveland 6-4 Tuesday night, sending the Indians to their fifth straight defeat. http://www.baratassuperstar.com/zapatillas-adidas-superstar-2.html . -- Cleanthony Early scored 19 points and Tekele Cotton added 14 as No. http://www.baratassuperstar.com/negro-blanco-adidas-superstar-2-zapatillas-hombre-mujer-g60979.html . The Brazilian-born strikers brace drew him level with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo as the leagues leading scorers with 17 goals apiece through 16 rounds. "The important thing is to help the team win, not the goals," Diego Costa said. After a first half dominated by defence, Atletico pressed Valencia into its area and Diego Costa did the rest.PORTLAND - DeMar DeRozan validated his newly minted All-Star title, spearheading the Raptors comeback on Saturday but theres one play hed like to have back. With just under five seconds remaining - the Raptors having clawed back from a 19-point deficit and pulled within one - DeRozan took the handoff from Chuck Hayes. As he tried to create space, turning the corner with Blazers guard Wesley Matthews draped all over him, the first-time All-Star fumbled the ball off his calf. His reaction was instant and said it all. He knew he, quite literally, dropped the ball. "I lost the ball, I put that one on me," DeRozan said, owning up to the miscue. "Ive got to keep the ball in my hands and not turn it over, at least give us a chance to get a shot off." Fact is the Raptors had that opportunity, a shot to steal a game they had no business hanging around in, because of DeRozans heroics. DeRozan, like the rest of his teammates, came out flat in the first half. Coming off a win in Denver the night before, Toronto shot 35 per cent from the field in the opening 24 minutes, misfiring on all eight attempts from three-point range. As a team they couldnt execute, missed makeable shots and left their defensive effort in the Mile High City. It was ugly. "The first half, we came out with a typical back-to-back approach," said coach Dwane Casey, who was critical of his team after they let up in the fourth quarter of Fridays double digit victory over the Nuggets. "It wasnt us." DeRozan, playing in his second game after missing two with an ankle injury, had just six points, shooting 2-of-8. Whatever was said at the break seemed to wake up the fifth-year guard. DeRozan could do no wrong in the second half, where he scored 30 of his game-high 36 points and recorded 10 of his career-best 12 assists. "I mean, hes an All-Star. Yall see it," said Kyle Lowry, who should be joining DeRozan in New Orleans later this month. "Hes an All-Star for a reason. He did an unbelievable job of making shots, getting to the line and just getting it going. We know. Weve seen it before so its no surprise to us." Lowry, like his backcourt comrade, was also much better in the second half - he had 23 points and eight assists on the night - as were subs Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes, who came in andd helped the Raptors find themselves defensively. http://www.baratassuperstar.com/nike-lunar-force-1/air-force-1-lunar-oro.html. . The resilient Raptors dug deep once again - something weve become accustomed to seeing after slow starts this season - and when it came down to one final possession, there was never a doubt who the play was being drawn up for. "[DeRozan] wanted the ball and when your best player, your All-Star wants to the ball you give him the ball," Lowry said. "They did a good job defensively and [Matthews] is strong enough to do that but Im still getting the ball to [DeRozan] every single time in that position." Within seconds of losing the ball, DeRozan walked off with both hands on his head in disappointment. He tapped his chest as if to say, "my bad" and lifted the jersey over his head. "We put ourselves in that position," Casey said, stressing the poor start. "[DeRozan] wanted the ball, we gave it to him, but I give him props for getting us to that point." "I commend DeMar for carrying us. He put us on his shoulders and took us down the stretch and put us in a position to win. Thats all you ask." The loss - Torontos sixth straight in Portland - said a lot about how far the Raptors have come, how far DeRozan has come. If there was ever any doubt about DeRozans All-Star candidacy or his growth as a leader, Saturdays game served as a silencer. He had his full arsenal on display, demanded the ball with the game in the balance and when it was all said and done he took responsibility for his blunder. No excuses, he pointed the finger at himself. Meanwhile, his team fought the good fight, something they failed to do when they last visited Portland. A year ago, the Raptors experienced the absolutely lowest point of an already low season, dropping an embarrassing 92-74 contest to the Blazers on Dec. 10, 2012, the finale of a winless five-game road trip. They lost Lowry and Andrea Bargnani to long-term injuries in the game, while Amir Johnson was ejected for uncharacteristically tossing his mouth-guard at an official. Their skid in Portland continues, they havent won in The City of Roses in seven years, but theyre not the same team that left the city in turmoil 13 months ago. "We put ourselves in a position to win the game even after all that," Casey said. "So thats what you have to ask for."
